The Emergence of McKinley Williams
as Transformational Leader, Educator and Inspirational Recording Artist
DREAMS INTO ACTION – THE WAITING IS OVER Project

Initiative No. 1

Waiting for the Angels

First activity to be conducted in McKinley’s Emergence Strategy:

Establishing the Dreams into Action Foundation

Goal: provide initial funding and buzz for Dreams into Action Foundation and create visibility for McKinley as a unique brand, that of a transformational leader, teacher and recording artist.

Deliverable: Broadcast quality recording of Waiting for the Angels (music and lyric by McKinley Williams) produced by ___________________ and McKinley Williams (and perhaps one or more additional executive producers)

Promotional and funding vehicle: Indiegogo crowd funding platform. From the Heart Productions, which is the fiscal agent for Dreams into Action Foundation and related projects, is a partner with Indiegogo. Concurrently, McKinley will make targeted outreach to key friends, associates, colleagues and supporters who have the capacity to make significant contributions (see Phase 1 Funding Strategy which appears in the full proposal).

Products/services funded from this effort:

  1. Radio and Internet ready broadcast quality recording of the song Waiting For The Angels
  2. Dreams into Action Foundation campaign video(s), interactive website, print collateral, social media campaign, additional fundraising and promotional services

Here’s the idea:

A radio and Internet ready broadcast quality recording of the song Waiting for the Angels will be used to bring attention to the issue of the mass incarceration of young black men.

Why this issue has relevance for McKinley: McKinley’s father was incarcerated during most of McKinley’s entire childhood, youth and much of his young adulthood. McKinley had only 3 or 4 one-on-one conversations with his father before he was killed in an unsolved homicide in 1983.

McKinley’s concept is similar to Ken Kragen’s and Quincy Jones’s “We Are the World” project where he plans to enlist an established visionary record producer to help him assemble several well-known vocalists and musicians to collaborate with him on the recording. McKinley plans to enlist both Ken Kragen and Quincy Jones to help with this effort (Ken Kragen is a friend has introduced McKinley to Quincy Jones).

This project will allow McKinley to gain visibility as a spokesperson about the issue of mass incarceration of young black males due to simple drug possession (convictions for possession of small amounts of marijuana and/or cocaine for personal use) and the impact it is having on our society.

To gain significant visibility that projects an authentic representation of who McKinley is and what he is seeking to accomplish as a transformational leader, teacher, recording artist and businessperson, he has conceived this promotional project to successfully establish the Dreams into Action Foundation.

The crowd funding campaign and promotional video will be called Dreams into Action – The Waiting Is Over. The project has two objectives:

  1. The first is to bring attention to the lives of young black men whose lives are essentially destroyed by getting caught up in the criminal justice system when all they have done is gotten arrested with a small amount of marijuana or cocaine. Their convictions carry very long prison terms and, after their release, they are further marginalized and pretty much written off by society. A key point of emphasis is the impact that mass incarceration has on the children and families of the incarcerated individuals. This has resonance for McKinley because of his own personal experience with having grown up without a father and having been shuttled off to live with his maternal grandmother at four years of age.
  1. The second objective is the launch of McKinley’s career as a social activist, transformational leader, teacher and recording artist. So what comes out of the project is the recording of Waiting for the Angels, which, if successful, will provide initial funding and visibility for the Dreams into Action Foundation and will launch McKinley’s company Triumphé Media Group, the brand under which McKinley’s other creative projects will be produced.

McKinley has identified a number of artists he plans to invite to participate in the project in some way. Many of the long established artists listed below have been major artistic influences for McKinley. In addition to their artistic accomplishment, the younger artists listed below are included because of their involvement in addressing pressing social and cultural issues. It is hoped that with Ken Kragen’s and Quincy Jones’ influence and recommendations, several of these artists as well as others not on this list will agree to become part of this project.
